A finalist for the 2014 Digital Book Awards, the ON THE HIGH LINE app offers a dynamic, interactive way to experience the High Line. It has a rich trove of content developed by the author exclusively for the app, and was designed as both a hands-on travel guide — with dozens of recommendations of local shops, restaurants, bars and galleries — and an entertainment for the armchair traveler.
It combines selected excerpts from ON THE HIGH LINE with original photography, maps, videos, and interactive features like user-generated photography and messaging. A user can browse according to categories of interest (Architecture, History, Nature), identify buildings in the High Line’s viewscape, and watch video clips of each section of the park.
The app has more than 100 photographs, including rare pre-park images showing the abandoned, “wild” High Line in all four seasons of the year by Rick Darke and Mike Epstein. It features video footage by Matt Baron and an original piano composition by Rafael Cortés.
